This week had me thinking about mental health issues and how they impact our life and ultimately, our business.

For me, it’s important to listen to the warnings and be proactive when it comes to mental health and making sure you feel your best, so you can be happy and subsequently, give 100% to your business.

Today I will share Mental Health Signs and a few tips on how to avoid a mental breakdown or something worse.

Mental Health Signs

Mental Health x Business

Early Signs

It’s important to identify those early signs – sadness, depression, burn out, etc., which translate into procrastination and lack of drive when talking about the business routines.

When you identify those early signs, you should ask some questions:

  • Am I procrastinating because I’m unsure of my skills or just because I don’t have the energy to do it?
  • Why am I always avoiding working on my vision/goal setting time?
  • Why am I not crossing off items on my list and doing things to reach my goals?

The answers to those questions will guide you towards acting early and bringing back that excitement to your work day!

Decrease in income

If your clients are leaving your portfolio and/or not hiring you for new services, it’s important to investigate/survey them to find out what drove them to make that decision? You want to increase your monthly income, not decrease it.

COVID played a big part on business’ income going down and even causing a shut down of some businesses.

It’s time for recovery, to move forward with a new plan. So even if your income decreased due to COVID, you should be taking the initiative to find new sources of income/new clients.

It’s important not to hold on to the pandemic as an excuse not to help your business grow.

If you feel powerless, not knowing where to start, seek professional help. Try building a team to help you get started for your next move!

Signs that you need a break

If you don’t wake up excited to work, especially if you are a business owner, chances are that you are on the wrong path.

Waking up dreading the work day is a sign that you should take a step back and evaluate your job/business.

You want to feel excited about your work, what you do, the people you serve. If that is not your day to day feeling, you need a new plan!

Do what makes you happy!

Balance and Regret

If seeing your kids in childcare in the summer and not having enough time to spend with them is weighing on you, it’s important to rethink your schedule, your priorities and find time and options to give them that much needed parent/kid interaction.

I felt bad when I had to teach over the summer, so I always included my son in my summer camps and classes.

It was a way for him to learn and see me in action, plus spend the whole day with mom and go for ice cream afterwards.

When working from home is not working

COVID brought a lot of parents to work from home but very few of them were ready to be successful at it.

Workspace, hours, kid boundaries – so many items on the list to make it a bad proposition, leaving parents frustrated and feeling guilty and bosses/clients unsatisfied.

If that is you and it has been creating a mental burden, seek a solution: talk to your partner, hire a nanny, allocate a space at your home to work, balance your hours and make sure your kids have a caregiver/childcare in place for those hours.

It’d so important not to feel guilty and have a clear mental slate to tackle your daily workload.

Moving Forward

It’s important to ask yourself: am I OK? Is this temporary? What’s causing it?

If the answer is no to all the questions, you should look for a health professional and a business coach to guide you through it.

If you feel it’s manageable, hire a business strategist to set a clear plan you’re not seeing in front of you to give you that boost.
